Release Notes V2.4


Version 2.4 released  2-6-2004  

     WxByte

1.      This program now changes the received file’s modified time to match the emwin packet header file time.

2.      Removed some unnecessary code.

3.      Added the ability to backup this program with the weather wire ingest.  The setup screen now has the option “Weather Wire Backup”.\

4.      When the program switches to Weather Wire Backup, it will generate a message when it switches.  The message will be titled “ADMWXMXX.TXT” with the AWIPS/Product identifier of “ADMWXM”.  If you want to be alerted when the system switches, check this option and setup and alarm in Weather Message for the product ADMWXM.

5.      The program now communicates with the Byte Blaster Server using UDP.  It no longer writes the Byte Blaster Server records to disk.

6.      Changed the purge time on the ingest directories to 24 hours.

     WxIngest

1.      This program now changes the received file’s modified time to match the emwin packet header file time.

      Weather Message Server  

1.      The program will no longer report error 25055 in the pop up error box.  This error was not actually an error but a tcp/ip connection loss report.

2.      Replaced zip software with correct problem with unzipping Noaa zip archives.

3.      Completed changes for faxing messages.

4.      The program now uses the file date/time to determine duplicates for binary/graphic files.  This will reduce the number of duplicate graphic files processed.

5.      Identified a problem with the “selected no head” option that caused it to not work as documented.  This option will now skip over the header information.

6.      Corrected a problem the state only alarm routine that prevented all UGC groups from being sent to the map program.  The program was only sending the last group.  This problem occurred when the county fields were left blank.  If “AnyCounty” as selected, everything worked properly.

7.      Started work to allow the server settings to be reloaded by a command sent from a client connection.

8.      Changed the program to check text messages for binary characters that are used by Weather Message to communicate with the message client and map client.  Messages that contained these codes would cause the message and map client to report a subscript error.

9.      Added code to the archive routine to check for locked files.  A user reported receiving error 70 when attempting to save files.

     WxMesgSetup

1.      The program will now remember its last screen location.

2.      The alarm grid will now remember any changes in column width.

3.      The Email and Pager grids now remember any changes in column width.

4.      The Alarm Entry screen now has a smart state selection box.  Type in the letters and it will start selecting the state.

5.      Corrected a problem with selecting Alaska counties.  For existing users, they will need to ask for an updated county files.

6.      The Alarm Entry screen now has smart county selection boxes.  Type in the letters for a county and it will start selecting the county.

7.      Added support for faxing messages.  A new Support Setup option, Fax Groups has been added.  The faxing subsystem supports, WinFax Pro, Windows 2000 built-in faxing and Windows XP built-in faxing.  To use WinFax Pro, you will have to purchase that product.

8.      Changed the alarm entry screen to have a tab strip to select the alarm functions.

9.      Added support for 20 alarm types/sounds.

10.  If you start entering a product, that is a fips product, and go back and change the product identifier to a product that uses zone codes, the program will now reload the county lists with the correct zone or fips codes for the counties.

11.  When sorting the alarms, the cursor will change to an hour glass to let you know the program is working.

12. The setup screen will now allow you to select one EMWIN ingest engine, WxIngest or WxByte, along with the Weather Wire engine.  This allows for dual ingesting of weather data.

      WxMcli

            1.  The alarm grid now remembers any changes in column width.

      WxImage

1.      The program will now properly handle an error caused by a corrupted setup file.

       WxMap

1.      The map save routines will now catch error 55 (file in use), when an image is being sent.

2.      Updated the program to use a new mapping component.  This component allows for multiple layers and will allow a number of additional enhancements.

3.      Added a zoom option, drag option and select option on the view menu.  The zoom option will allow you to draw a rectangle around an area and zoom to that area.  The drag option will allow you to drag the map in any direction.

4.      When a new alarm is received, the county will be outlined in a light color to indicate the alarm.  This outline will last for 5 minutes. 

5.      The program will now outline counties 5 minutes prior to expiration with a light blue color.

6.      The Landmark setup screen now supports Bold and Italic fonts at the same time.  Previously only the bold attribute worked.

7.      Added right click capability on the counties.  Right clicking will show information on the county.  Specifically, it will show the State, County Name, Weather Forecast Office, FIPS code, and the county’s location in the state.

8.      The Landmark setup screen now has options for specifying whether a label should appear.  You can also set the label background and outline color.

9.      Added a Refresh option to the File menu.  This option will clear all active alarms and request an update from the Weather Message server.

     WxPager

1.      If the program is unable to resolve a host name, an entry is placed in the pager log file.

     WxRadar

            1.  Updated the radar sites file with the latest radar site information.

2.      Added an option to retrieve using the http protocol.  This seems to be much faster than using ftp.

3.      Added the capability to specify which radar image to download.  Also added the capability to specify the file name to use when placing the image in the ingest directories.

4.      Added additional status messages for the http transfer.

5.      If a radar image is not available, the program will now show and copy a “Radar Unavailable” image.

      WxPost

1.      If a message is selected for parsing, the program will trim off any leading or trailing spaces.

     WxFtp

1.      Changed the program so that it will recognize a login name formatted as name@server.com.  The program did not like a ftp command with two @ signs.

     WxPurge

1.      The program now looks at the file creation date/time, instead of the date/time last modified.  Since the ingest programs are changing the modified date/time, this program needed to be using the actual creation date/time.

     WxSched

1.      The setup screen will now allow you to define multiple ingest paths.

2.      The schedule grid now remembers any changes in column width.

     WxWw2000

1.      The program now tries to create a file name like those generated in the EMWIN system.  It cross-references the sending WFO with the WfoSites.dat file to get the state abbreviation to append to the file name.

2.      Changed the program so that it would not show in the task bar.  It only needs to appear in the system tray.
